Epoxy fiberglass mesh cloth is applied to the coils of filled cast-resin dry-type transformers and reactors. It serves for internal & external wrapping as well as interlayer insulation of coils. The cloth bonds firmly with epoxy resin of cast coils. Similar to steel reinforcement in concrete, the mesh cloth improves the crack resistance of cast coils. It prevents cracking of the outer coil insulation caused by thermal cycling effects and huge electromagnetic force during sudden short-circuit of coils, and enhances the overall mechanical strength of coils. When used as interlayer insulation, the mesh cloth acts as the main insulation between coil layers.
