Product Introduction
Product name: Lithium Tantalate (LiTaO3) Crystal
Lithium tantalate is a colourless to pale yellow ferroelectric crystal with strong electro-optic, piezoelectric, pyroelectric and nonlinear optical behaviour. In practice it is the material behind most surface acoustic wave filters and pyroelectric detectors in volume production.
Key properties:
The crystal belongs to the trigonal system with an ilmenite-type structure. Dielectric loss is low, the detection rate is high, and the Curie temperature is high, which is what makes it suitable for high-frequency electronic communication such as pyroelectric infrared detectors and SAW devices. The electro-optic coefficient r33 reaches about 30 pm/V, and in waveguide modulators the modulation voltage is a fraction of what a KDP crystal needs. Periodically poled crystals give 3-5 µm mid-infrared output, and magnesium-doped material has produced 3.58 W of continuous laser power.
Typical use:
resonators and filters for SAW devices; electro-optic waveguide modulators; Q-switches; pyroelectric detectors for medical ultrasound and environmental monitoring; periodically poled mid-infrared sources.
Fabrication and options:
Two standard product forms. LTB crystal rods, X, Y or Z ±1°, in Ø2"×50 mm and Ø3"×50 mm. LTW epitaxial polishing wafers, double side polished to Ra < 10 Å, X, Y, Z or Y-rotated with or without a locating flat, in 10×10×0.5 mm, Ø2"×0.5 mm, Ø3"×0.5 mm and Ø3"×1.0 mm. Other sizes and periodically poled wafers on request. Packed in a Class 100 clean bag inside a Class 1000 clean room.
Ordering:
Minimum order 10 pcs. Tell us whether the wafer is for SAW, electro-optic or pyroelectric use, because the cut and the polish differ between them.
