Global Lighting Industry Bellwether — Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE) to Return to Area A & B of China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou from June 9 to 12, 2026

With the theme of “Dare to Forge WE Future, Dare to Surpass”, GILE, the bellwether of the global lighting industry, will make its comeback at Area A and B of the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou from June 9 to 12, 2026.
What fuels the lighting industry’s continuous advancement? Is it more advanced chip technology, massive capital investment, or sophisticated business models? While these factors certainly matter, they are outcomes rather than root causes. At the heart of all progress lies a fundamental, decisive positive force — “Dare”.
"Dare" embodies the extraordinary courage of enterprise leaders amid transformation, the brand manifesto of forging ahead boldly, and the unwavering perseverance of R&D engineers. Within the lighting sector, this spirit manifests in two dimensions: internally, it means daring to be pioneers, the courage to explore uncharted territories; externally, it means daring to showcase innovations to the public and take action to steer the direction of the whole industry. Complementing each other, these two pillars jointly power the mission of "Enhance Life with Light".
The “WE Future” in the 2026 exhibition theme refers to us in the present, as well as the strength marching toward tomorrow. Rooted in China’s lighting industry, GILE gathers the full industrial chain spanning chips to end applications, alongside cross-industry partners. It encourages every lighting practitioner to take innovative strides, uniting individual efforts into collective momentum for industry transformation.
Heading into the future, competition in the lighting industry is shifting from single-product rivalry to value competition centered on scenarios and solutions. Industrial chain structures and business models keep reshaping, while resource integration and efficiency upgrades accelerate. Meanwhile, consumer trends for intelligence, wellness, minimalism and low carbon continuously generate new demands, expanding lighting application boundaries across cities, buildings and diverse spaces. This unlocks brand-new opportunities for sustainable growth and high-quality development of the industry.
Mr. Hu Zhongshun, General Manager of Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co., Ltd., commented: "Currently, the combined effect of three driving forces — policy incentives, new consumption & marketing models, and technology integration — is bringing fresh momentum to the lighting industry. For lighting practitioners, including technical developers, designers, engineers, manufacturers and sellers, this means not merely iterative upgrades of technical parameters, but an overall leap in thinking paradigms, business models and core values.
This edition of the exhibition will further implement the philosophy of ‘Enhance Life with Light’, and conduct in-depth research on how cutting-edge lighting technologies optimize life. This brand-new vision integrates lighting technology, humanistic care, sustainability and the Internet of Everything. It strives to improve quality of life, seamlessly adapt to various living scenarios, and build smarter and healthier experience environments for all people.”
The 2026 exhibition framework is built around five core pillars: Biology, Emotion, Digital, Ecology and Immersive Experience. Interconnected, these pillars weave technological innovation, humanistic care, Internet of Everything and sustainable development together, opening imaginative future pathways for the lighting sector. Each pillar corresponds to specific product categories, interactive experiences and a series of concurrent events. The exhibition will highlight how lighting evolves from a simple illumination tool into a comprehensive solution that improves life quality and addresses real-world challenges such as public health and sustainable development.

Biology: Health & Circadian Rhythm

People spend approximately 90% of their time indoors in modern life, and artificial light is quietly reshaping human circadian rhythms. Long-term exposure to artificial light, especially blue light at night, suppresses melatonin secretion and disrupts sleep-wake cycles. Insufficient daylight exposure during daytime tends to cause fatigue and poor concentration.
Against this backdrop, GILE will showcase a new generation of human-centric lighting technologies. Going beyond basic color temperature adjustment, these technologies turn light into a non-intrusive wellness support tool to ease daily fatigue, stabilize mood, and provide assistance for people with mental or learning needs to lift quality of life. Lighting designs optimized for spectral performance and synchronized with human natural circadian rhythms can improve nighttime sleep quality, regulate daytime cortisol secretion to boost work efficiency, and support rehabilitation in medical scenarios. This embodies smart healthy lighting: Light adapts to needs; wellness comes with light.

Emotion: Psychology & Ambiance

Light is an essential architectural element that directly shapes people's perception and experience of spaces. For instance, lighting at around 4,300K color temperature effectively inhibits melatonin secretion, helping boost concentration and reduce fatigue. When natural light is scarce in winter or at night, such lighting enhances alertness and optimizes cognitive performance.
The 2026 exhibition will delve deep into light's psychological impacts on humans. Adaptive and AI-powered lighting solutions flexibly respond to human activities across different scenarios. Whether functional lighting to sharpen focus during home office work, or comfortable light environments that create relaxing home atmospheres, light is becoming a subtle medium to relieve stress and improve daily comfort. Ultimately, light builds high-quality environments that facilitate interpersonal communication, elevate personal well-being, and deepen emotional bonds between people and spaces, making light a beautiful bridge connecting life and emotions.

Digital: Connectivity & Intelligence

Driven by breakthroughs in sensor technology and autonomous lighting systems, lighting is integrating into smart home and smart city ecosystems in brand-new forms. Modern luminaires embed abundant sensors to serve as perceptual neural networks for buildings. Their functions extend from conventional basic lighting to seamless integration with diverse smart infrastructure.
Such systems can detect fall risks in nursing homes in real time, guide traffic flow within smart cities, and automatically optimize energy consumption without human intervention. These technological evolutions aim to make technology "invisible" in daily scenarios, effectively improving safety, efficiency and convenience of life, fulfilling the future vision: Intelligence perceived invisibly, life enhanced substantially.

Ecology: Sustainability & Nature

The concept of “Enhance Life with Light” emphasizes that lighting design must satisfy human demands while respecting the coexistence of all living creatures. As urbanization continuously encroaches on natural habitats, the lighting industry bears greater environmental responsibility and must actively mitigate its negative ecological impacts.
To this end, GILE will showcase innovative technologies and products balancing human needs and environmental protection, including: renewable energy lighting solutions; low-carbon production processes that cut emissions from energy acquisition to product usage; wildlife-friendly lighting solutions that preserve migration patterns and insect biodiversity by adjusting light spectra and irradiation angles; and sustainable product systems adopting circular design, recyclable materials and modular components to reduce environmental load throughout the full lifecycle from manufacturing to disposal.
Latest breakthroughs in horticultural lighting will also be major highlights, featuring tunable-spectrum LED grow lights, IoT-based ambient light regulation systems, and off-grid greenhouse lighting powered by renewable energy. This responsible development path ensures lighting improves people’s life quality while minimizing environmental footprints.

Immersion: Experience & Storytelling

Amid the rise of the metaverse and experiential retail, light serves as a bridge linking the physical world and virtual spaces. Innovations in lighting technology transform how people perceive spaces. Without VR headsets, visitors can immerse themselves in blended reality scenes and extended reality environments.
For example, high-density LED displays reconstruct spatial storytelling with pixel-level precision; projection mapping turns building facades into flowing canvases; interactive media enables real-time interaction between light and humans via sensors and algorithms. These innovations also spawn "mixed-reality" lighting experiences. In gaming, retail and entertainment scenarios, physical light can synchronize seamlessly and interact in real time with digital content. Lighting is no longer merely an illumination tool, but a dynamic carrier to convey emotions, information and entertainment experiences. It makes ordinary spaces more attractive and explorable, and turns everyday moments into precious memories.
