WatchTime Düsseldorf 2026 Closes Its Doors: What Europe's Microbrand Boom Means for the Future of Watch Manufacturing
Dusseldorf, Germany - October 29, 2026Industry Commentary by Shenzhen Forever TimeWatch
From October 23 to 25, the Rheinterrassein Duisseldorf once again hostedWatchTime Diisseldorf - the mostimportant annual gathering of theGerman-speaking mechanical watchcommunity. With roughly 50 to 70exhibitors filling the century-old venue, the fair offered a clear reading of wherethe watch industry is heading: the energyis increasingly coming from independentand microbrands.
A Fair Defined by Independent Watchmaking
Alongside established German names such as Sinn, Stowa, Fortis and Damasko, this year's floor was notably animated by a new generation of brands — Studio Underd0g from the UK, Serica from France, Venezianico from Italy, CiRCULA attending for the seventh time, and many more. These young companies operate with small teams, sell directly to consumers online, and compete on design Originality and storytelling rather than heritage.
A telling sign of the times: Japanese movement manufacturer Miyota joined as the fair's first official movement partner ("TIME powered by MIYOTA") — a public acknowledgment that the movement supply chain, much of it invisible to end consumers, is the backbone enabling this new wave of brands to exist.
The Market Context: Demand Is Back, and It's Mid-Priced
The fair closed just as the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry released its September export data: a fifth consecutive month of growth, with exports up 11.7% year-on-year to CHF 2.23 billion. The strongest-performing price segment? Watches retailing below CHF 500 — precisely the territory where most microbrands play. Exports to the United States surged 86%, while France posted a remarkable 128% increase.
For independent brands, the message is clear: consumer appetite in the US and Europe is real, and the mid-price segment is where the momentum is.
What This Means for Brand Founders
Behind every watch on display in Düsseldorf stands a manufacturing partner. As microbrands scale from successful crowdfunding campaigns to recurring collections, their most critical decisions are about production: who can deliver consistent quality, handle small to mid-size batches flexibly, and scale up when a model takes off?
