Novec 1230, FK-5-1-12, C6F12O is a fluorinated ketone with the systematic name 1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5-nonafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pentanone and the structural formula CF3CF2C(=O)CF(CF3)2, a fully fluorinated analog of ethyl isopropyl ketone. It is used as gaseous fire suppression agent where it could damage expensive equipment or property, such as museums, server rooms, banks, clean rooms and hospitals. Novec 1230 can be used in both total/partial/localized flooding systems, and directional spray type applications; it is also used in portable extinguishers for specialized applications. It has been used as a full-immersion fluid in a proof of concept data center cooling system. Novec 1230 fluid does not deplete ozone (ODP 0) and has a global warming potential of 1 over 80 years, equivalent to that of carbon dioxide. The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) classifies this chemical as H412 - Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. However, photolysis and hydration may be a significant sink of Novec 1230 in the environment.
Combined with extinguishing device and electronic accessories, the whole system can be actuated automatically. It can monitor the situation of protective region through detectors and then it can also start the extinguishing device through solenoid actuator automatically. So the whole system can achieve automation totally. Therefore, it can avoid that there is no one who notice the fire when it happens and it also saves much money for employment to supervise the protective area.
Management of Multiple zones is also in the safe control of the whole system. We can use one system to protect multiple zones through selective valves. It can let the whole system alternative aiming at different protective zone. Agent can be discharged into where the fire happens. It will be very efficient to put out fire in short time.
