1. What is a heat‑pipe solar collector?
It is one type of vacuum solar collector. Inside each vacuum tube there is a heat pipe. Solar radiation heats the heat‑pipe working medium, and heat is transferred to the manifold header. It fits split solar hot‑water systems.
2. What is its working principle?
Solar energy passes through the vacuum glass tube and heats the heat‑pipe fluid. The medium vaporizes and rises to the copper header, transferring heat to the circulating glycol inside the manifold. Then the cooled liquid flows back down inside the heat pipe for next cycle.
3. What is the biggest advantage compared with U‑tube collector?
Heat‑pipe collector uses dry heat transfer. No water flows inside vacuum tubes. If one tube breaks, the whole system will not leak water. It brings higher safety and lower maintenance cost, especially for cold‑region projects.
4. Can it work in cold winter and freezing weather?
Yes. Thanks to vacuum insulation and heat‑pipe structure, it has great anti‑freeze capacity. The vacuum tubes themselves do not contain water, so they will not crack due to water freezing. System loop still needs antifreeze fluid for the circulating pipeline.
5. Does hot water flow inside the vacuum tubes?
No. Only heat‑pipe working medium is sealed inside tubes. Hot water / glycol circulates in the metal header above the tubes. Broken glass tube will not cause water leakage.
6. Can heat‑pipe collectors match pressurized solar water tanks?
Perfectly suitable. It is the preferred collector for split pressurized solar systems. Heat‑pipe collectors transfer heat to the pressurized tank via closed glycol circulation loop.
7. Will the efficiency drop on cloudy days?
Output will decrease without direct sunlight, but vacuum heat‑pipe tube still absorbs scattered solar radiation. It can collect partial heat under cloudy weather, better performance than flat‑plate collectors in low‑irradiation conditions.
8. What installation requirements should be followed?
• Install with proper tilt angle according to local latitude for best solar capture.
• Keep the collector facing south (northern hemisphere).
• Ensure good ventilation behind the array.
• Professional installation is required for header piping and antifreeze filling.
9. What maintenance is needed?
• Clean glass tube surface 1‑2 times per year to remove dust and bird droppings.
• Check antifreeze concentration of circulating fluid every 2‑3 years.

• No need to replace tubes frequently under normal operation.
