Why this guide
If you source 3D printing filament for resale, run a print farm, or build your own filament brand, PETG is likely the material your customers ask for most after PLA — and the one where supplier quality differences show up fastest. This guide covers what actually matters when buying PETG filament in bulk, so you can compare suppliers on facts instead of price alone.
What is PETG filament?
PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) is a glycol-modified polyester that combines the ease of printing of PLA with much better toughness and durability. It prints at 220–250°C on a heated bed, has minimal odor, and produces parts with a characteristic glossy surface.
For end users, PETG hits a practical sweet spot: stronger and more temperature-resistant than PLA, far easier to print than ABS, with no heated chamber required.
Key properties buyers should verify
Not all PETG spools perform the same. When evaluating a supplier, check these five points:
- Diameter tolerance.±0.02 mm
- Layer adhesion and low shrinkage.
PETG vs PLA vs ABS at a glance
Property | PETG | PLA | ABS |
Ease of printing | Easy | Easiest | Hard (warping) |
Strength / toughness | High | Moderate | High |
Heat resistance | ~80°C | ~55°C | ~95°C |
Weather / moisture resistance | Good | Poor | Fair |
Odor during printing | Low | Low | Noticeable |
Typical use | Functional parts, outdoor, bottles, brackets | Prototypes, decorative, hobby | Automotive, industrial |
For most consumer and light-industrial applications, PETG replaces ABS with far fewer printing problems — which is exactly why demand keeps growing.
