Global Container Prices Surge Again, Pressuring Both Asia–Europe and Transpacific Routes
Drewry’s World Container Index rose 6% week on week to $2,712 per 40-foot container, extending the upward trend seen since May.
More significant increases were recorded on the Shanghai–Rotterdam and Shanghai–Genoa routes, with space tightening on Asia–Europe services; US-bound routes also continued to strengthen due to blank sailings and expectations of surcharges.
Carriers are raising June FAK rates and peak season surcharges. Together with geopolitical risks in the Middle East and rising fuel costs, short-term freight rates may remain firm.
