Walter Launches TC180 & TC280 Supreme Carbide Taps with HIPIMS Coating

Walter Tools used its Fall 2025–2 launch—about 1,600 new products and 22 new families—to deepen its threading portfolio with two solid carbide tap series and a new thread mill.

Built on advanced HIPIMS coating for an extremely dense, wear-resistant surface. A negative cutting-edge geometry breaks chips short and prevents fractures, making it a strong fit for softer steels and ISO P, K and N materials.

Uses the same coating technology but is tuned for high-volume production. Straight cooling grooves in the shank drive coolant directly to the cutting zone, improving heat management and process reliability—translating to longer tool life in demanding environments.

A solid carbide thread mill with a redesigned shank geometry that cuts stress and boosts stability at high feed rates. Unequal-pitch cutting edges deliver light, vibration-free machining; a tougher carbide grade plus new coating extends tool life and reduces the need for radius compensation.

HIPIMS and targeted coolant delivery are the 2025–2026 frontier for carbide taps: they push tap life and process reliability in exactly the high-volume, hard-material jobs that dominate automotive and precision engineering. Walter's move mirrors rival line extensions from OSG (A-CHT / A-CSF carbide series, Feb 2025) and Sandvik (CoroTap 100-PM, Mar 2026).
