JHB-1 is a pre-hydrogenation catalyst developed for the treatment of coking crude benzene with high content of unsaturated compounds. It is mainly used to selectively hydrogenate unstable components such as cyclopentadiene and styrene, preventing polymerization and protecting downstream hydrodesulfurization catalysts. During the hydrogenation process, JHB-1 can maintain the hydrogenation of unsaturated compounds while avoiding hydrogenation of aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene and xylene. The catalyst can also partially remove sulfur and nitrogen compounds from crude benzene. JHB-1 is suitable for operating conditions of 190–240°C, 2.4–3.0 MPa, with a liquid space velocity of 1.3–1.5 h-1.
