Sea Buckthorn Fruit Oil
Sea buckthorn seed oil is produced through low-temperature extraction of sea buckthorn seeds, concentrating the core active nutrients found within the seeds. It is rich in various bioactive compounds, including α-linolenic acid (Omega-3), linoleic acid, vitamin E, and phytosterols. The oil is clear, with fine-textured nutritional molecules. As a precious plant oil with both medicinal and dietary uses, it can serve as an ingredient in dietary supplements as well as in skincare products.
Sea buckthorn fruit oil is extracted from fresh sea buckthorn pulp and retains the natural nutrients of the pulp. It is rich in palmitoleic acid, β-carotene, and carotenoids, and also contains active ingredients such as vitamins, with a natural sea buckthorn aroma. As a high-quality natural vegetable oil, it is widely used as a dietary ingredient and a base oil in cosmetics.

Sea Buckthorn
We have trekked through the high mountains of Mount Wutai, all in search of those plump sea buckthorn berries, rich in vitamins and flavonoids—truly nature’s most sincere gift to us.
It grows in arid, barren mountainous regions, resisting wind and sand and withstanding severe cold, accumulating abundant nutrients in harsh environments. A single small sea buckthorn berry contains a variety of nutrients and bioactive compounds, including unsaturated fatty acids, various vitamins, and essential amino acids. Its vitamin C content far exceeds that of ordinary fruits, and combined with vitamin E and beta-carotene, it forms a rare natural complex nutritional profile.
Sea buckthorn’s value lies not only in its high nutritional density; every part of the plant is usable, with the fruit, seeds, and leaves all holding value. Its short harvesting season and the difficulty of storing fresh fruit—combined with its growing environment, nutritional composition, and harvesting and processing methods—all contribute to the scarcity of this “sacred fruit of the wilderness.”
Nutritional Components of Sea Buckthorn
Vitamins
Sea buckthorn has the highest vitamin C content of any fruit or vegetable; it also contains eight important vitamins, including carotene, vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), vitamin B1, vitamin B12, and folate.
Proteins and Amino Acids
Sea buckthorn berries are quite rich in protein; 18 amino acids can be isolated from sea buckthorn, including the eight essential amino acids required by the human body as well as non-essential amino acids. Sea buckthorn also contains superoxide dismutase (SOD).
The fatty acids that make up sea buckthorn oil include myristic acid, lauric acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and linolenic acid, among others, and they are of significant medical value.
Volatile Compounds in Sea Buckthorn
The main components of the volatile compounds in sea buckthorn are ester compounds, including methyl 3-methylbutyrate and octanoic acid ethyl ester, which together contribute to the unique aroma of sea buckthorn berries.
Steroids, terpenes, phospholipids,
and other compounds
The steroids in sea buckthorn are primarily concentrated in its unsaponifiable fraction; the terpenoids in sea buckthorn consist mainly of ursolic acid, oleanolic acid, and triterpenoic acids; and the phospholipids in sea buckthorn berries—primarily lecithin and cephalin—promote cellular metabolism.
Organic acids, sugars, minerals
The organic acids found in sea buckthorn berries include malic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, oxalic acid, and succinic acid, among others. The sugars are primarily glucose and fructose, but the berries also contain rhamnose, galactose, and xylose. Sea buckthorn berries contain 28 mineral elements, the main ones being K, Na, and Ca.
The above content is excerpted and compiled from *Biological Characteristics and Uses of Sea Buckthorn*.
Sea buckthorn berries contain flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds, which are among the pharmacologically active components of sea buckthorn; the roots and bark of the sea buckthorn plant also contain the alkaloid 5-hydroxytryptamine.
