Overview

Zebra Shades, in detail

Zebra shades solve a problem roller blinds cannot: they let you choose how much of the window is sheer and how much is solid, without raising the whole shade.

Line the solid bands up and the shade reads as a soft privacy screen. Offset them and daylight filters through the sheer bands in stripes. It is the most flexible light control in our range, and the reason it is our fastest-growing product.

  • Solid and sheer bands align anywhere between open and closed
  • Fabric-wrapped cassette, colour matched to the bands
  • Ultrasonically cut bands — no fraying after years of use
  • Daytime privacy with the sheer bands in place
  • Motorised version ideal for scheduled daylight

Measuring

Measuring made simple

Zebra shades are normally mounted outside the recess so the cassette can sit above the opening and the bands clear the frame.

Width

Opening plus 60 mm each side.

Drop

From the cassette to the sill plus 20 mm.

Reveal

55 mm depth for the cassette and bracket.

Good to know. Inside-recess fitting works too — deduct 8 mm from the narrowest width so the fabric does not rub the frame.

Care

Looking after your zebra shade

Maintenance

  • Dust with a vacuum brush; bands clean easily.
  • Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Do not pull the chain sharply — let the bands settle.
  • Keep the cassette free of dust so the bands run true.

Warranty and spares

  • 5 years on fabric, cassette and chain
  • Bands ultrasonically sealed against fraying
  • Fabric replaceable on the same cassette
FAQ

Common questions

Are zebra shades blackout?

Solid bands overlap to near-blackout, but light still passes at the edges. For a fully dark bedroom, pair them with a blackout roller behind.

Do the bands fray over time?

No — the bands are ultrasonically cut and sealed, so the edges stay clean through years of daily use.

Can they be motorised?

Yes, and it suits them well: preset positions let the shade move from daylight to privacy on a schedule.

Can I see out during the day?

Through the sheer bands, yes. The solid bands block the view at eye level when aligned.

How much stack do they need?

About 45 mm per 300 mm of drop, so a 2 m shade stacks to roughly 300 mm.

Are they suitable for bathrooms?

Choose the satin or textured series; both resist humidity better than the linen-look fabric.
