Plasma Rotating Electrode Process PREP
Plasma Rotating Electrode Atomization (PREP) powder production equipment is an advanced system for preparing high-purity, high-sphericity metal powders. Its principle uses a plasma arc as the heat source to melt the tip of a rapidly rotating metal consumable electrode. The molten metal is thrown out under strong centrifugal force, forming countless tiny droplets. These droplets spheroidize under surface tension and rapidly solidify into powder in an inert atmosphere. The entire process requires no crucible, thus eliminating ceramic inclusion contamination at the source, resulting in high powder purity and extremely low oxygen content. The non-transferred arc plasma rotating electrode atomization powder production equipment is a special powder-making device developed from traditional PREP technology. Its core differences are: First, the heat source form: the plasma arc is generated between the tungsten electrode and the nozzle inside the gun body, forming an independent high-temperature, high-speed plasma jet, rather than directly burning between the electrode and the workpiece. Second, the bar driving method: a three-roller driving method is used to rotate the bar at high speed, enabling automatic feeding. Meanwhile, the bar does not need to be machined with a threaded structure, which can reduce the powder preparation cycle. The powder produced by this process has high sphericity, good flowability, narrow particle size distribution, and very few hollow or satellite particles. It is suitable for powder preparation of high-end materials such as titanium alloys, superalloys, and refractory metals, and is widely used in cutting-edge fields such as additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, aerospace engines, and biomedical applications.
