Dry Shipping Container

A dry shipping container is the fully enclosed, watertight steel box used to move general cargo by sea, road and rail. It protects goods from weather but does not control temperature, so it suits everything from machinery and building materials to packaged goods and palletised freight. Every unit we supply uses SPA-H weathering steel panels, a 28 mm plywood floor and a coating system shot-blasted to Sa 2.5 and finished to ISO 12944, which is what lets the box stand up to years of outdoor and coastal exposure.

Choosing one comes down to three decisions. Size: 20ft, 40ft, 40ft High Cube and 45ft High Cube cover almost every requirement, and we also build non-standard lengths from 5ft to 53ft. Condition: new and CSC certified for export, one-trip, used cargo-worthy for inland transport, or storage-grade for a box that never travels. Certification: anything moving internationally needs a valid CSC plate; a container used as an on-site store does not.

Two figures settle most orders. If your cargo is heavy and compact, weight runs out before volume, so a 20ft at about 33 m³ is usually the right box. If it is light and bulky, volume runs out first, so a 40ft or High Cube at 68–76 m³ gives you more cargo per dollar. Always check the door opening alongside the internal height — cargo that fits inside can still fail to pass the doors.
